Specializing in diabetes, obesity, and rare diseases, the group employs tens of thousands of people in the region and generates a continuous flow of travel to major scientific capitals, regulatory authorities (EMA, FDA), and clinical research partners. This traffic is not seasonal: it follows the calendar of approvals, medical conferences, and investment cycles.
Novo Nordisk is not alone. Medicon Valley, a life sciences cluster spanning both sides of the Øresund Strait (Copenhagen and Malmö in Sweden), brings together several hundred pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies: Genmab, Leo Pharma, Bavarian Nordic, ALK, Lundbeck, and many companies originating from the universities of Copenhagen and Lund. This ecosystem generates regular travel to and from Basel, Boston, Tokyo, and Shanghai.
Beyond pharma, Copenhagen is home to the global or Nordic headquarters of A.P. Møller-Maersk (maritime transport and global logistics), Vestas (the world’s leading manufacturer of onshore wind turbines), Carlsberg, and Danish Crown. Bizav demand at EKCH is therefore distributed across several industrial sectors, without dependence on a single calendar: this provides a solid structural base.
