What Determines the Price of a Flight to Corfu

In Corfu, from May to October, demand drives up prices. What truly impacts the quote is the lead time.

Every flight must be authorized by the airport before departure, then scheduled for an arrival time. This is our job, not yours: we submit the application, confirm ground space, and secure the slot. In July-August, a last-minute request finds fewer available aircraft, leading to a higher price. We recommend planning one to two weeks in advance.

The airport charges a €2,000 (excl. VAT) fee per leg with passengers, regardless of the aircraft. A round trip adds €4,000 (excl. VAT) to the flight cost.

The aircraft can remain on-site during your stay if space is available. For a short stay, this avoids paying for a positioning flight to bring it back from elsewhere.

The peak season is concentrated in July-August, with two notable spikes: the Assumption Day (August 15th, a Greek national holiday, leading to a massive influx on the island) and the PHAEX Festival (August 6-9, 2026), an electronic music festival that generates dozens of jet arrivals over the weekend. Outside these windows, early season (May-June) and late season (September-October) slots remain much more accessible, at significantly lower rates.

Corfu Airport by Private Jet: What to Expect

Ioannis Kapodistrias Airport is the sole gateway to Corfu. It features a single runway, oriented 16/34, 2,375 m long, at sea level, and is open 24/7. There is no ILS, the precision guidance system that brings the aircraft to the runway in bad weather. Approaches are therefore visual or use simpler means, and the cloud ceiling must remain quite high. In calm winds, landings are on runway 34, facing north, entirely over the sea.

Four companies handle private jets on the ground: Signature Aviation, Universal Aviation, Meander Handling, and Corfu Air Monitors. Each private flight must first obtain airport approval, a PPR (Prior Permission Required), then a reserved arrival slot. In July-August, allow 7 to 14 days. The private lounge is billed at €2,000 excl. VAT per trip with passengers, in addition to the flight. In 2024, the airport saw 4.3 million passengers: in summer, commercial flights take priority on the runway.

Upon Arrival

The aircraft parks next to the terminal. Someone from the ground handling company will greet you at the aircraft door. The private lounge is in the terminal, separate from commercial flights. Customs and passports are handled on-site, taking a few minutes during off-peak times.

Your driver will be waiting for you at the exit. For the Old Port and a boat to Paxos, allow 10 minutes.

The GA lounge is directly accessible from the apron, 2 km from the city center. In summer, allow 5 to 10 minutes to the Old Town and Old Port, 20 to 25 minutes to Paleokastritsa on the west coast, 40 to 50 minutes to the north of the island (Sidari, Kassiopi). To reach Paxos or other islands without an airport, boat or helicopter are the two options from Corfu.

Paxos and Antipaxos do not have airports. From Corfu, a helicopter reaches Gaios (Paxos' main port) in 20 minutes. A fast boat from Corfu's Old Port takes about 1 hour for the same crossing. Antipaxos can be reached from Paxos in 15 minutes by boat. Lefkada is accessible by helicopter in 35 minutes. Kefalonia has its own airport for jet rotations.

The final approach over the sea

On runway 34, the aircraft remains over the Ionian Sea until the threshold and passes very low before touching down. To the right, 600 m away, you can see the islet of Pontikonisi and its Byzantine chapel. On runway 16, in the other direction, there is no direct approach: the aircraft must circle over the island because the terrain to the north prevents extending the trajectory.

Summer arrival slot

Corfu is a coordinated airport: you cannot take off at any time you wish. The airport validates the flight (the PPR), confirms that a team can handle the aircraft on the ground, then blocks the slot. This is not a step you need to handle yourself. It is part of the flight organization, and it explains why a request submitted late in August finds fewer available times. Training flights are refused: commercial traffic is too dense.

Closure in January 2027

Runway 16/34 will be closed from January 19 to 28, 2027, for maintenance. During these ten days, only medical helicopters can land, directly on the parking area. A private flight that winter will need to be rescheduled before or after.

Corfu's Season: April to October, a Gradually Closing Window

April, early May

Season opening, slots available Villas and yacht bases come back to life. Bizav traffic is still limited, slots are easy to obtain. This is the ideal window for a first stay or reconnaissance, with an island still uncrowded and reasonable hotel rates.

June

Increasing load, steady flow All beaches and restaurants open. Commercial traffic is picking up. For bizav, morning and late slots remain available with 7 to 10 days advance notice. Luxury villas are already booked for July-August, but the island is still pleasant.

August 1-2, 2026

Kavallouri Fest, start of major summer festivities Festival organized with the Region of Ionian Islands in the north of the island. First peak of local traffic for the season. August 15 (Dormition of the Virgin, Greek national holiday) generates the absolute peak: influx from the mainland, arrivals by boat and plane, hotel rooms difficult to find without anticipation.

August 6-9, 2026

PHAEX Festival, concentrated bizav peak International electronic music festival on Corfu, returning for its 5th edition. Dozens of jet arrivals over four days. This is the window where GA slots run out fastest: 14 days in advance does not guarantee the desired time. The handler coordinates cancellations in real-time via Fraport's OCS portal.

September

Golden season, declining price pressure Water temperature at its maximum, attendance decreasing. For bizav, slots become available again after September 10. The International Ionian Islands Philharmonia Festival (September 18-19) marks the cultural end of the season. Price-wise, villas often offer attractive last-minute rates.

October

Gradual closure, end of yacht season Nautical charter bases close their fleets, beaches empty. Bizav traffic drops sharply from mid-October. Weather still pleasant (95% VMC conditions in October according to METAR history). Airport H24 but slots are very easy. Low attendance makes this period one of the best to visit the island without parking constraints.

IONIAN ARCHIPELAGO

Corfu, Gateway to an Otherwise Inaccessible Archipelago

On the map, the Ionian archipelago stretches 200 km south. Corfu is the northern gateway. Below, the chain of Ionian islands unfolds: Paxos, Antipaxos, Lefkada, Ithaca, Kefalonia, Zakynthos. Most have their own airport. Two do not.

Paxos (30 km south of Corfu) and its neighbor Antipaxos (2 km further) have no air infrastructure. Yet they are two of the most sought-after destinations by villa owners and yacht charterers in the Mediterranean. Gaios, the main port of Paxos, is connected to Corfu’s Old Port by a fast boat in about 1 hour, or by helicopter in 20 minutes from the LGKR apron. Antipaxos, known for its crystal-clear blue waters and two beaches (Voutoumi and Vrika) with no roads or cars, can be reached from Gaios in 15 minutes.

The typical itinerary for a long-stay client: arrive by jet at LGKR, spend one or two nights in a villa on the main island, then take to the sea south with a chartered sailboat or catamaran. Some coordinate helicopter departure from the apron directly to Gaios pier, bypassing the road, to join a yacht already moored in Antipaxos bay that same evening.

For longer stops, Kefalonia (LGKF/EFL airport) and Zakynthos (LGZA/ZTH) have runways sufficient for light and midsize jets, with seasonal bizav coverage. Ithaca, however, is only accessible by sea from Kefalonia or Lefkada.

Formalities

Passport, Customs, and Flight Regulations in Corfu

A private jet does not exempt you from formalities. At LGKR, passport control and customs are handled in the GA lounge, separate from the commercial terminal.

Greece is part of the Schengen Area: EU citizens travel with their ID card; others with a passport, and a visa if their nationality requires it.

From October 12, 2025, the EES (Entry/Exit System) will be progressively deployed at the EU’s external borders: non-EU citizens should expect longer controls upon arrival and departure to non-Schengen countries.

For any bizav flight to Corfu, three steps are necessary: (1) obtain a PPR (Prior Permission Required) from Fraport Greece via an HCAA certified handler, (2) retrieve the GSCN (Ground Service Confirmation Number) provided by the handler after validating their service capacity, (3) submit the slot request to the HSCA (Hellenic Slot Coordination Authority) including the PPR. During peak season, 7 to 14 days advance notice is recommended. Fraport’s OCS portal allows the handler to check runway availability in real-time.

How to reach Paxos or Antipaxos from the airport?

Paxos and Antipaxos do not have airports. From LGKR, a helicopter reaches Gaios (the main port of Paxos) in 20 minutes. A fast boat from Corfu’s Old Port, 10 minutes from the airport by road, takes about 1 hour. From Paxos, Antipaxos can be reached in 15 minutes by boat. The handler can coordinate the transfer from the tarmac to the pier. Note: Paxos is only accessible on foot or by bicycle; no car rental on the island.

What are the fixed fees beyond the aircraft and fuel?

Fraport Greece charges €2,000 (excl. VAT) per passenger leg for the use of the dedicated GA lounge. A round trip represents €4,000 (excl. VAT) in terminal fees, regardless of the aircraft size or handler chosen. For operators outside the European Union, Greek VAT (24%) is added. These fees apply on the same basis as in Mykonos or Santorini: this is the uniform policy of the Fraport Greece network.

Is the airport accessible in winter?

Yes. LGKR is H24 all year round according to AIP. In practice, bizav traffic drops sharply from November. Ionian weather conditions remain favorable for much of the winter (78-82% VMC conditions in January-February according to METAR history). Note: the runway will be closed for maintenance from January 19 to 28, 2027 (only helicopter medical flights authorized). For any winter 2027 flight project, confirm runway availability with the handler before booking.
