What Determines the Price of a Flight to Mykonos

In Mykonos, the date of travel weighs far more heavily than the aircraft model. The island thrives from May to October, and a few key dates concentrate almost all private jet traffic. The XLSIOR Festival (August 20-25, 2026), one of Europe’s largest electronic music festivals, alone accounts for several hundred arrivals over five days. Friday evenings in August and Monday mornings at the start of the week are the most expensive times, and the first slots to be booked.

Parking adds a cost that only appears on the quote: from May 1st to September 30th, a private jet cannot remain on the ground for more than 40 minutes. The aircraft drops off passengers and departs for Athens, Heraklion, or another Greek airport. This positioning flight is added to the price. For an aircraft based in Athens, expect approximately €1,500 to €2,500 for the round trip, depending on size.

The airport also charges €2,000 (excl. VAT) per trip with passengers for the private terminal (rate effective since 2022). A round trip is €4,000 (excl. VAT), regardless of the aircraft.

The arrival time for a private jet can only be requested 14 days before the flight. Commercial flights, however, book months in advance and take precedence. On a Friday evening in August, these 14 days rarely guarantee the desired time. The earlier the date is set, the more possible times remain available.

Mykonos Airport by Private Jet: What to Expect

Mando Mavrogenous Airport is the only gateway to Mykonos. A 25 million euro modernization, completed in 2021, expanded the terminal in Cycladic architecture. One runway, orientation 16/34, 1,902 m by 30, at an altitude of 123 m. There is no ILS, meaning no precision guidance in bad weather. Approaches are visual or GPS, from both ends of the runway.

Two companies welcome private jets: Signature Aviation and Universal Aviation. Universal is the only one with an on-site team all season. From June 2 to October 24, the airport is open 24 hours a day. The rest of the year, expect approximately 10 am-7 pm, and very few private jets.

The aircraft parks in the private-jet parking area. Someone from Signature or Universal will greet you at the aircraft door. The private lounge is on the first floor of the terminal, on the arrivals side, away from commercial flights.

Passports and customs are processed in this building, in a few minutes. If your villa is in the south of the island, allow 15 to 25 minutes by car. A boat to Delos is coordinated from the port, not from the runway.

Your car awaits you at the exit of the GA lounge, on the first floor of the terminal. Allow 10 to 20 minutes to Chora and the old town, 20 minutes to the southern beaches (Psarou, Platis Gialos), and 25 minutes to Super Paradise. To access other Cycladic islands, helicopter and private boat from Mykonos port are the two natural options.

From JMK, a helicopter reaches Paros in 25 minutes, Santorini in 45 minutes. Delos has neither an airport nor a dock for scheduled ferries: it is accessed by private boat from the old port, about a 10-minute crossing. For villas in the north of the island that are difficult to access by road during the season, a helicopter transfer avoids traffic jams. During drop & go periods, helicopter departure can be aligned with the actual landing time to avoid encroaching on the regulated 40 minutes.

Exit is via the VIP lounge on the first floor of the terminal, not through the commercial flow. The chauffeur waits at the building door, luggage handled by the FBO team. Off-season, Chora is 10 minutes away. In July-August, the airport road can become congested after 6 pm: allow 20 to 30 minutes for late arrivals.

From May 1 to September 30, between 7 am and 10:30 pm, a private jet can only stay for 40 minutes. The aircraft drops off passengers and then departs to wait in Athens, Heraklion, or another Greek airport, returning for the departure. This empty leg is included in the quote. At night, from 10:30 pm to 7 am, the limit is lifted, and the aircraft can remain.

Arrival slots are requested late, and commercial flights take priority

Each private flight requires airport approval, a PPR (Prior Permission Required), and a slot. Commercial flights book months in advance. A private jet can only request its slot 14 days prior. On a Friday evening or Saturday morning in August, these 14 days rarely guarantee the desired time. A cancellation sometimes frees up a slot, but it's not something to rely on.

1,902 m, without ILS: who can land?

The runway is sufficient for common categories, from turboprops to super-midsize jets. Regular large jets (Falcon 7X, G550, Challenger 604, Global 6000) can land at normal load. Beyond approximately 80 tons at full load (G700, Global 7500), temperature and actual weight are checked before confirming: it's not a refusal, it's a day-by-day calculation.

Mykonos Season: Dates that Make or Break a Slot

May 1st-31st

Season opening, drop & go already in effect Clubs gradually reopen. The parking NOTAM (40 min max) comes into effect on May 1st. Slots are still available, but stock runs out quickly for late May weekends.

June to mid-July

Rapid ramp-up All beaches and clubs active. Friday evening and Monday morning slots close within hours of opening at J-14. A handler with permanent agents at JMK monitors cancellations in real-time.

August 20-25, 2026

XLSIOR Festival, absolute peak of the season One of the largest electronic music festivals in the Mediterranean concentrates several hundred jet arrivals over five days. This is the tightest window of the year: slots must be requested on the first day of the J-14 window.

August 15th

Dormition of the Virgin, Greek National Holiday Maximum island traffic peak. The airport operates continuously, but formality delays increase during the day.

September

End of season, constraint still active Parking restrictions remain in effect until September 30th. Bizav demand remains strong at the beginning of the month, and pricing pressure gradually eases towards the end.

From November 19, 2026

Runway closure, every Thursday Fraport Greece closes the runway every Thursday for reconstruction (November 19, 2026 to March 18, 2027). Bizav flights are suspended on that day. Exceptions: December 22, 24, 31, 2026 and January 5, 7, 2027.

Formalities

Passport, Customs, and Flight Rules in Mykonos

A private jet does not exempt you from formalities. At JMK, passport control and customs are handled in the GA lounge on the first floor of the terminal, not in the commercial terminal.

Greece is part of the Schengen Area: an EU national travels with their ID card; others with a passport, and a visa if their nationality requires it.

From October 12, 2025, the EES (Entry/Exit System) will be progressively deployed at the EU’s external borders: non-EU nationals should expect longer controls upon arrival and departure to non-Schengen countries.

This amount is fixed, regardless of the aircraft size or number of passengers.

Is the 1,902m runway compatible with my aircraft?

Yes, for the vast majority of private jets. Turboprops, VLJ, light, midsize, and super-mid jets land without performance constraints. Common heavy jets like the Falcon 7X, Gulfstream G550, Challenger 604, Global 6000, land under standard conditions. For the heaviest aircraft exceeding 80 tons at full load, the handler verifies performance data (temperature, weight, wind) before confirming. This is not a systematic refusal; it’s a calculation that any good operator performs.

How to get to Delos from JMK?

Delos has neither an airport nor a scheduled ferry dock. It is exclusively accessed by private boat from Mykonos old port, about a 10-minute crossing. The FBO can coordinate transfers from the tarmac to the pier. Please note: Delos is a UNESCO World Heritage site and closed on Mondays.

Is JMK open in winter?

Yes, but with reduced hours (approximately 10 am-7 pm) and almost exclusively domestic flights. For bizav, winter in Mykonos is almost non-existent.
