In Santorini, the date and parking significantly influence the price, as much as the aircraft model itself. The island’s peak season runs from May to October, and two charges are almost always added to the quote.

The first is drop and go: from May 1st to September 15th, during the day (8 AM to 9 PM local time), the aircraft is allowed only 40 minutes on the ground. It drops off passengers and departs for Athens, Heraklion, or another Greek airport. This positioning flight is included in the quote. For an aircraft based in Athens, expect approximately €1,500 to €2,500 for the round trip, depending on its size.

The second charge is airport fees: €2,000 (excl. VAT) per leg with passengers, regardless of the aircraft. A round trip adds €4,000 (excl. VAT) on top of the flight cost.

In the evening, the calculation changes. From 9 PM to 8 AM, the aircraft can stay for up to 11 hours. A short stay (arrival in the evening, departure the next morning) thus avoids the positioning flight, if a parking spot is available.

The airport requires prior authorization before the flight (a PPR). During high season, ideally, this should be requested 14 days in advance. Late August and early September are the busiest periods: a last-minute cancellation sometimes frees up an hour, but it’s not something to rely on. From November to April, these restrictions are lifted, and prices decrease.

Santorini has only one gate, about 5 km from Fira. Single runway 15/33, 2,340 m by 30, at an altitude of 39 m. This length is sufficient for turboprops, light and medium jets, and most large jets under normal load. Above 30 °C, a full aircraft must confirm it can take off that day.

The airport is not open 24/7. Every private flight requires a PPR (Prior Permission Required), the agreement to land. In high season, and until September 15, daytime parking is limited to 40 minutes: the aircraft drops off passengers and departs.

To reach other Cycladic islands without another flight, a private helicopter or fast boat from Athinios or Fira ports are the two natural options.

From LGSR, an EASA-certified twin-engine helicopter reaches Mykonos in 30 to 40 minutes (118 km), Naxos in 25 to 30 minutes, Paros in 25 to 35 minutes, Heraklion in 35 to 45 minutes, Milos in 20 to 35 minutes. Twin-engine aircraft land on helipads of major hotels and yachts anchored in the caldera. The LGSR handler coordinates arrangements so that the helicopter departure directly follows the jet arrival.

The GA exit is separate from commercial traffic. Luggage is handled by the FBO team and loaded directly into your vehicle. Fira is 10 to 15 minutes away, Imerovigli 15 to 20 minutes, Oia 30 to 40 minutes. In July and August, the main road can become congested in the evening: arrivals after 6 PM local time may extend the journey by 5 to 10 minutes. 2,340 m in both directions. Jet A-1 fuel is available during opening hours, from EKO and GISSCO. No hangar for transient aircraft, no de-icing, no gasoline for small piston aircraft. An aircraft parked nose-in can only exit by being towed.

From May 1 to September 15, between 8 AM and 9 PM (summer time), a private jet stays for only 40 minutes. It then departs to wait in Athens, Heraklion, Chania, or another Greek airport. Santorini Season: Windows that Make or Break a Slot

May 1st - May 31st

Season Opening, Drop & Go in Effect Hotels and restaurants gradually reopen. The parking restriction (40 min between 0500 and 1800 UTC) comes into effect on May 1st. Slots are still available, but demand quickly rises for late May weekends.

June - Mid-July

Rapid Increase in Traffic Commercial traffic continuously increases. Friday evening and Monday morning slots close within hours of the D-14 window opening. A handler with direct contacts at LGSR monitors cancellations in real-time.

Late July - Late August

Peak Season, Busiest Slots Late August weekend departures and early September Monday morning returns are the most difficult to confirm. Plan at D-14 as soon as the window opens. Overnight stays outside the drop & go window (after 1800 UTC) remain the solution for short stays without repositioning.

September 15th

End of Drop & Go Restriction The 40-minute daytime restriction is lifted. Overnight stays become accessible at any time. Bizav demand remains strong in Santorini, less so on other islands.

September 19th, 2026

Passport, Customs, and Flight Rules in Santorini

A private jet does not exempt you from formalities. At LGSR, passport control and customs are handled in the GA lounge, separate from the commercial terminal.

Greece is in the Schengen Area: an EU national travels with their ID card; others, with a passport and a visa if their nationality requires it. Customs are present during operating hours only (not H24): night or very early morning arrivals must be confirmed with the handler.

Since October 12, 2025, the EES (Entry/Exit System) is gradually being deployed at the EU’s external borders: non-EU nationals should expect longer controls upon arrival and departure to non-Schengen countries.
