The Algarve boasts over thirty golf courses spread across a 150-kilometer coastal arc. The three most renowned destinations in LPFR’s immediate catchment area are Vilamoura, Quinta do Lago, and Vale do Lobo.
Vilamoura is home to five courses, including the Old Course opened in 1969, one of the oldest in the region, and hosts the Portugal Masters, a European Tour event, every year in late October. Quinta do Lago offers three courses (North, South, Laranjal) integrated into a very high-end residential estate. Vale do Lobo, with its Royal Course and Ocean Course, borders the red sandstone cliffs of the Loulé coast, offering direct views of the Atlantic from several fairways.
What distinguishes the Algarve from other European golf destinations is the length of its season. From October to May, the courses are in excellent condition, temperatures range between 15 and 20 °C, and sunshine remains abundant. When northern and British clubs close their greens for winter, the Algarve remains playable all day. This seven-month window is when charters from the UK, Netherlands, Sweden, and Switzerland are concentrated.
Ria Formosa, a classified lagoon natural park just minutes from the tarmac, complements the offer for those who alternate morning golf with boat trips between the barrier islands of the lagoon.
