In Barcelona, it’s not the summer season that drives up the quote, but the major trade shows. The Mobile World Congress (March 2-5, 2026, over 100,000 visitors) is the busiest business aviation week of the year: jets flock from London, Geneva, and Silicon Valley. Added to this are the Spanish Grand Prix, Primavera Sound, and Sónar. For these dates, bookings are made 3 to 6 weeks in advance.

The real bottleneck is parking. The airport has only about forty business aviation parking spots. During MWC, a NOTAM limits layovers to less than three hours for large aircraft: the plane drops off its passengers then repositions to Girona, Palma, or Valencia before returning. This repositioning is added to the quote. Outside of trade shows, however, parking is much simpler; Barcelona is a true hub, not a saturated island.

Day and time also play a role. At MWC 2026, Sunday, March 1, sees the most arrivals, and Friday, March 6, the most departures. Shifting by half a day can ease slots and prices.

Finally, El Prat imposes a slot for both arrival and departure, coordinated by Aena. Outside of events, 24 to 72 hours’ notice is sufficient. During trade show week, parking fills up even before the planes: it dictates the schedule.

Barcelona-El Prat (LEBL/BCN) is about ten kilometers from the city center, a twenty-minute drive, and is managed by Aena. It is a large international airport, open 24/7, with three runways (up to 3,352 m): length is never an issue, even for a transatlantic long-haul flight. Jet A-1 fuel, fire category 10, instrument guidance.

Private flights go through the Terminal Corporativa, the business aviation terminal renovated in 2020, separate from the commercial terminals. Aside from major events, access is smooth. During the Mobile World Congress and large events, slots and the ~40 business parking spaces fill up weeks in advance. The time and space are reserved beforehand, not upon arrival.
