Private Jet Charter Madrid – Tailored Freedom

Madrid, the vibrant capital of Spain, is a major economic and cultural crossroads in Europe, renowned for its dynamism and historical heritage.

From Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, Private Jets Connect ensures an unparalleled travel experience, combining comfort, privacy, and flexibility for all your journeys, whether for business or leisure.

Which aircraft for a flight
to or from Madrid?

Barajas accommodates everything from regional turboprops to transcontinental ultra-long-range jets: four 24/7 runways, the longest at 4,179 meters, with no curfew. The choice of aircraft depends on distance and group size. Here are three typical scenarios.

The Peninsula and Southern Europe

Lisbon 55 min · Barcelona 55 min · Paris 1 h 35

For a hop to Lisbon or Barcelona, a very light jet or a light jet is sufficient, offering a pressurized cabin and a flight time of less than an hour. A turboprop is still an option for these distances, slightly slower but more economical. For Paris or a major Mediterranean city, a light jet is the most efficient solution.

Madrid is one of the best gateways to South America. New York is within the range of a heavy jet. Bogotá and Buenos Aires are beyond the reach of heavy jets and require an ultra-long-range aircraft, such as a Global 6000, Gulfstream G650, or Falcon 8X, with a private suite and lie-flat beds. Barajas' runways (up to 4,179 m) and moderate elevation (609 m) impose no restrictions on these aircraft.

An empty leg to Madrid,
if the sky lines up.

An empty leg to or from Madrid is a repositioning flight already on the schedule: the aircraft needs to reach another base or its next mission. These trips are offered at a reduced fare, often around 30% to 75% off a classic charter, in exchange for less flexibility on dates and routing.

On every enquiry, we systematically scan the sky for these opportunities. The goal: whenever possible, a more competitive quote, on price as well as on the aircraft category available.

Understanding the Price

What determines the price of a flight to Madrid

In Madrid, several factors combine. The first is airport choice: Barajas (LEMD) and Torrejón (LETO) have different cost structures. Barajas handles all traffic, with premium handling and sometimes tight slots during major IFEMA events. Torrejón is more available and cheaper for handling, but requires prior authorization and a slightly longer travel time.

Next, demand is stable year-round. Madrid does not have a distinct off-season: as a business capital, home to Parliament, royal institutions, and headquarters of major companies listed on the IBEX 35 (Santander, BBVA, Repsol, Iberdrola, Telefónica), it generates rotations twelve months a year. However, certain peaks strain demand: FITUR and ARCO in February at IFEMA, the Formula 1 Grand Prix in September, ESMO in October, and the Ibero-American Summit in November.

Finally, distance dictates the aircraft category. A European rotation in a midsize or super-midsize jet is of a different magnitude than a New York or Bogotá flight requiring a heavy jet or an ultra-long-range aircraft. On transatlantic routes to Latin America, the hourly flight cost and passenger count significantly impact the quote. Pricing is always by quote.

Barajas, Torrejón or Cuatro Vientos: Choosing your Madrid Gateway

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas (LEMD/MAD) is the main private jet gateway to Madrid: four runways, open 24/7, the longest at 4,179 meters, elevation 609 meters, Jet A-1 always available, and a private jet terminal. The ENAIRE AIP specifies that any aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight of less than 10,000 kg and/or fewer than 20 seats must use one of the two handlers approved by AENA. Without this, the small aircraft is not accepted at the private terminal.

Torrejón de Ardoz (LETO), a Spanish air base 24 kilometers northeast, is open to private jets with prior authorization. Its long runway, low commercial traffic, and generally more flexible slots make it an alternative during IFEMA peaks, or when a discreet arrival is desired.

Cuatro Vientos (LECU), eight kilometers southwest of the center, is reserved for general aviation: a short runway of approximately 1,500 meters, without customs. A private jet or an international flight has no place there.

Other Madrid Gateways

Torrejón de Ardoz

TOJ / LETO

24 km NE of center (A-2, 25–35 min)

Long runway compatible with business jets, low commercial traffic, often more flexible slots. Prior authorization from Spanish military authority required. Customs available upon coordination.

Madrid Cuatro Vientos

LECU

8 km SW of center (10–15 min)

Short runway (approx. 1,500 m), no customs or bizav services. Only suitable for small unpressurized aircraft on domestic flights. Not recommended for jets or international flights.

Ground welcome

You land. Everything is already in place.

Upon your arrival at Barajas

You are received at the private terminal, completely separate from the commercial terminals. Customs and passport control are done in this building, in a few minutes, and the car waits right outside. From the plane to the sedan, allow 10 to 15 minutes.

The ground company is declared in the flight plan

The use of one of the general and business aviation companies approved by AENA is indicated in the flight plan, item 18. This is the normal procedure at Barajas, not an exception: reception is coordinated from the private terminal. A file without this mention is incomplete, and the time cannot be confirmed.

Slots, especially when IFEMA is full

Barajas is IATA Level 3 coordinated: every movement, private or commercial, requires a validated slot. Real-time requests go to the Airport Operations Center (AOC). During major IFEMA events, which are adjacent to the airport, slots become tight: requesting them 48 to 72 hours in advance remains a good margin.

Torrejón, more flexible, a little further away

A Spanish Air Force base open to civil traffic, Torrejón regularly hosts business jets. Less saturated, it offers more flexibility on timing. Prior coordination with the Spanish military authority is required, and the journey to the center is a little longer: A-2 highway, 25 to 35 minutes.

Madrid's Geopolitical Advantage

The European Gateway to Latin America

Madrid holds a geographical and cultural position that few European capitals share: a common language with twenty countries representing over 500 million people, an economic fabric deeply rooted in both continents, and regular transatlantic connections that fuel permanent bizav traffic.

The companies listed on the IBEX 35, Banco Santander, BBVA, Telefónica, Repsol, Iberdrola, all have major operations in Latin America and executives who regularly travel between the two hemispheres. The city also hosts the embassies of all Spanish-speaking countries, the Spanish Parliament, the Royal House, and institutions like the Banco de España or the CNMV: all these diplomatic and institutional flows justify the use of large aircraft.

This is the angle that distinguishes Madrid in bizav traffic: the capital is not just a European business hub, it is a bridge connecting to an entire continent. For an ultra-long-range aircraft departing from Barajas to Bogotá, Lima, or Buenos Aires, the 4,179-meter runway is more than sufficient, and the GAT handlers are familiar with these rotations.

Agenda

The Calendar that Tightens Slots in Madrid

Demand is steady year-round, but several windows concentrate private arrivals. Knowing these helps anticipate slots, aircraft parking, and ground service providers.
January to February
FITUR (International Tourism Fair, IFEMA) One of the world's largest tourism fairs, held at IFEMA, two kilometers from Barajas. During this period, Barajas slots are booked several days in advance.
February
ARCO Madrid (Contemporary Art Fair, IFEMA) One of the top five contemporary art fairs in the world. Collectors and galleries from around the globe converge on Barajas, creating a concentrated peak in private traffic over a few days.
May
Madrid Open Tennis (Caja Mágica) Simultaneous ATP and WTA Masters 1000, one of the largest clay-court tennis tournaments. High demand for jets from European and North American capitals.
September
Madrid Formula 1 Grand Prix The Madrid urban circuit has joined the F1 calendar (2026 edition scheduled for September 11-13). Aircraft parking at Barajas and Torrejón fills up the day before the race weekend.
October
ESMO Congress (Oncology) Major international medical congress, 2026 edition from October 23 to 27 in Madrid. Medical and institutional delegations from all over Europe.
November
Ibero-American Summit XXX Summit, November 4 and 5, 2026. Heads of State and delegations from all Latin American and Iberian Peninsula countries. Diplomatic and institutional traffic reaches its annual peak; Torrejón is often used in addition to Barajas.
Formalities and safety

Formalities, safety and private flight regulations in Spain

Private jet travelers to Spain must check Schengen entry requirements, including valid passport, visa if needed, and proof of funds, which vary by nationality, origin, itinerary, and aircraft operation type. Contact the national authority AESA for civil aviation rules and consult official travel advice for border formalities.

Private flight regulations require strict compliance with safety and approval standards.

Experiences on the ground

Iconic Activities and Madrid Experiences

Once in Madrid, the options for activities are endless. Art lovers won’t want to miss strolling through the “Golden Triangle of Art,” while history enthusiasts can explore the Royal Palace and Plaza Mayor.

For an immersion in local culture, attending a flamenco show is an unforgettable experience. Foodies will delight in tapas in the La Latina district or the flavors of Mercado de San Miguel.

Parks, like Parque del Retiro, offer peaceful havens for relaxation or a boat ride. For luxury shopping enthusiasts, the boutiques in the Salamanca district are a must-visit.

Every street corner in Madrid reveals a new facet of this captivating city.

03

Barajas or Torrejón: how to choose for a private flight?

Barajas (LEMD/MAD) is the default choice: 24/7, all aircraft categories, customs in the private terminal, four runways including the main one at 4,179 meters. Torrejón (LETO), 24 kilometers northeast, is a mixed military-civilian air base open to bizav: less commercial traffic, often more flexible slots, interesting during IFEMA peaks or for operators who prioritize discretion. It requires prior authorization from the Spanish military authority, and customs are coordinated in advance. We will decide with you based on the date, aircraft, and your final address.

04

Which aircraft to reach Latin America from Madrid non-stop?

New York (approx. 5,766 km) is within the range of a heavy jet like a Challenger 650 or a Falcon 900LX. Bogotá (approx. 8,180 km) and Buenos Aires (approx. 9,984 km) are beyond the range of heavy jets and require an ultra-long-range aircraft, such as a Global 6000, Gulfstream G650, or Falcon 8X, with a private suite and lie-flat beds. Barajas’ runways (up to 4,179 m) and moderate elevation of 609 meters impose no restrictions on these aircraft.

05

How does Barajas GAT work for a private jet?

The GAT (General and Business Aviation Terminal) is completely separate from Barajas’ commercial terminals. According to ENAIRE AIP, any aircraft under 10,000 kg MTOW or with fewer than 20 seats must use one of the two AENA-approved GAT handlers, which is declared in the flight plan. You arrive in a private lounge, customs and immigration are processed on-site in a few minutes, and your car is waiting at the aircraft. The FBOs present, Aviavip, United Aviation Services, Jetex, and Universal Aviation, provide handling, fuel, and concierge services.

06

How long does it take from landing at Barajas to Madrid city center?

The GAT is 13 kilometers from the center. Allow 25 to 35 minutes to Paseo de la Castellana or Puerta del Sol outside peak hours (M-11 then A-1, or M-40). During peak hours or IFEMA events, which are less than two kilometers from the airport, allow 40 to 50 minutes. From Torrejón, add approximately ten minutes via the A-2 highway.

07

Do customs formalities vary depending on the destination from Madrid?

Spain is a member of the Schengen Area: a flight to Paris, Rome, or Frankfurt does not require customs clearance. For a non-Schengen flight, to Morocco, the United Kingdom, the United States, or a Latin American country, customs and immigration are processed at Barajas GAT, available 24/7. Formalities also vary depending on passengers’ nationality; your handler anticipates and coordinates these with the competent authorities.

08

Can I travel with a pet or arrange a medical flight from Madrid?

Yes to both. For pets, entry or exit rules for Spain follow EU veterinary regulations: microchip, up-to-date vaccination record, and, for third countries, an official health certificate. We frame these documents in advance. For medical repatriation or a medicalized flight, Madrid is a well-equipped location: a medicalized aircraft with a medical team can be chartered from Barajas, 24/7, in coordination with emergency services and medical authorities.
