London has several airports designed for private jets. The right choice depends on the address, aircraft type, and arrival time. Farnborough (EGLF / FAB), 55 km southwest of the city center, is the only airport in the UK entirely dedicated to business aviation: no commercial flights, a single terminal managed by TAG Farnborough Airport, customs and immigration on-site. Its 2,440 m runway (runway 06/24) accommodates all aircraft on the market, from VLJ to Boeing Business Jet. It is the gateway to Mayfair, Belgravia, the City, and Surrey properties, via the M3 and A31.

For the north, Luton (EGGW / LTN) has the largest volume of private movements in the region, three competing private terminals, and a direct train to St Pancras in 28 minutes. Biggin Hill (EGKB / BQH), to the southeast, 20 km from the center, does not require a slot reservation and can get a helicopter to the heart of the City in six minutes: it is the fastest for Canary Wharf and the Docklands. London City (EGLC / LCY) is the airport for bankers and fund managers in the Docklands: three miles from Canary Wharf, transfer by DLR in five minutes. Its 1,508 m runway, with a 5.5° approach (double the standard), only accepts a certified list of light jets and excludes heavy aircraft.

Farnborough closes in the evening and on Christmas

The airport is open Monday to Friday from 0700 to 2200, and on Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays from 0800 to 2000, local time. It is closed on December 25 and 26. All movements require prior permission (PPR) via Farnborough Airport Ops. For a transatlantic flight arriving late in the evening, the remaining open hours should be checked before choosing FAB.

Sustainable fuel, on request

Farnborough is one of the first UK airports to offer SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) alongside conventional JET A-1. It can be requested from TAG Farnborough Airport when preparing the flight. In March 2025, the airport signed a contract for 12.5 million liters of waste-derived SAF.

London City: the aircraft must be approved

Only approved aircraft can land there: Embraer Phenom 100/300, Citation CJ4, HondaJet, certain Learjets, and a few other light jets. The approach is steep, and takeoff must remain quiet. A heavy jet or a super-midsize cannot use LCY. Aircraft certification and crew qualification must be checked before choosing London City.

What this practically changes: during the show week, landing at Farnborough without having coordinated the operation well in advance is almost impossible. TAG manages this peak with well-oiled organization, but parking slots and handling areas are scarce. Alternatives like Luton, Biggin Hill, or even Stansted (EGSS/STN) for large aircraft coming from afar, then take over. Conversely, for aerospace and bizav professionals themselves, landing at FAB during show week is a statement of positioning, and those who book early can do so smoothly. In 2024, the airport recorded 29,702 total movements for the year, with a planning limit set at 50,000 annual movements by agreement with local authorities.
