A charter flight is a bespoke arrangement: you choose the date, route, aircraft and schedule. An empty leg is a flight already planned by the operator — you don’t choose the route, but you benefit from a 30% to 75% discount on the price. The onboard comfort is strictly identical.
How much can I save with an empty leg?
Savings range from 30% to 75% depending on the route, date and aircraft type. For example, a Light Jet Paris–Nice listed at €8,000 for a charter can be found as an empty leg at €2,500–4,000. A long-haul flight like London–Dubai can drop from €45,000 to €15,000–20,000. The later the booking and the more imminent the flight, the lower the price.
Can the flight be cancelled after I book?
Yes, this is the main drawback of an empty leg. The flight is linked to a primary flight (the client who chartered the aircraft). If that flight is cancelled, delayed or modified, your empty leg is too. That’s why we recommend confirming quickly, maintaining some flexibility, and potentially having a plan B. In case of cancellation, no fees are charged.
How much luggage can I bring?
It depends on the aircraft. As a general rule: a Light Jet (Citation CJ, Phenom 300) accepts 2 to 3 cabin bags per passenger. A Midsize (Citation XLS, Learjet 60) offers a more spacious hold for 4 to 6 bags. A Heavy Jet (Challenger 604, Global 6000) allows large suitcases and bulky equipment (skis, golf clubs, etc.). What is the boarding process like for an empty leg?
Exactly like a standard charter flight. You go to the private aviation terminal (FBO) at the specified airport.
