The New York metropolitan area boasts the highest density of business aviation on the planet. Teterboro, Westchester, Republic, Morristown: five business jet hubs within 30 minutes of Manhattan constantly generate repositioning flights to Florida, the West Coast, the Caribbean, and Europe — offering numerous opportunities if your dates are flexible.

Teterboro (KTEB) is the premier business aviation airport in the United States, with over 160,000 business jet movements per year — twice that of Le Bourget. Located in New Jersey, 20 minutes from Midtown Manhattan, it is the absolute hub of the ecosystem: 100% private aviation, six leading FBOs (Signature, Jet Aviation, Atlantic, Meridian), a dedicated tarmac for Heavy and Long Range jets, and direct access to the George Washington Bridge. Repositioning flights are daily to Miami, Palm Beach, Aspen, Los…

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about empty-leg flights in New York

The key points to know before booking an empty leg from or to New York.

01

Why is New York the world's leading market for empty legs?

The New York metropolitan area has the highest density of business jets on the planet: Teterboro alone generates over 160,000 business jet movements per year, twice that of Le Bourget. In addition, there are Westchester, Republic, Morristown, JFK, and Newark — an ecosystem of 5 business jet hubs within 45 minutes of Manhattan. This density creates an uninterrupted flow of repositioning flights to Florida, the West Coast, Aspen, the Caribbean, and Europe, offering daily empty leg opportunities.

02

Which New York airports are involved?

Our marketplace aggregates flights across the six business jet hubs in the Tri-State area: primarily Teterboro (KTEB) (Manhattan’s historic hub), Westchester (KHPN) to the north, Republic Long Island (KFRG) for the Hamptons, Morristown (KMMU) on the New Jersey side, plus the general aviation terminals at JFK (KJFK) and Newark (KEWR) for transatlantic long-haul flights. Depending on your departure point in Manhattan or the suburbs and your destination, one or the other will be more relevant.

03

What are the most active empty leg corridors from New York?

Four axes dominate. Northeast-Florida (TEB/HPN ↔ Miami, Palm Beach, Naples, Boca Raton): the most active business jet route in the world, over 400,000 movements per year, an almost daily influx of empty legs in both directions. Northeast-California (TEB ↔ Van Nuys, Los Angeles, San Francisco) by Heavy or Long Range jets. Northeast-Caribbean (TEB ↔ St Barths, Nassau, Turks & Caicos) which is highly seasonal. And an increasing number of transatlantic flights (TEB ↔ Le Bourget, Luton, Farnborough) operated by Global, Falcon 7X/8X, or Gulfstream G650.

04

How much does an empty leg from New York cost?

Prices vary depending on the aircraft type, distance, and flexibility. As an indication: TEB → Miami from $8,000 in a Light/Mid Size jet, TEB → Los Angeles from $22,000 in a Heavy jet, TEB → Aspen from $12,000 during ski season, TEB → St Barths from $18,000 in a Mid Size jet, TEB → Le Bourget from $35,000 in a Long Range jet. This represents a saving of 50 to 75% vs. on-demand charter, with the same aircraft and crew.

05

What is the high season for empty legs in New York?

The New York market does not experience a structural lull — flows are constant. However, peaks are concentrated in three windows: May-September for the Hamptons (Teterboro/Republic rotations on Friday and Sunday evenings), November-April for Florida (Miami, Palm Beach, Naples) with a peak during Thanksgiving and the year-end holidays, and December-March for Aspen and Vail (ski season with ascensions in late December and late February).

06

Are there transatlantic empty legs from New York?

Yes, and increasingly so. The routes TEB ↔ Le Bourget, TEB ↔ Luton/Farnborough, and TEB ↔ Geneva are rapidly developing, operated by Global 6000/7500, Falcon 7X/8X, Gulfstream G650/G700. Given the flight time (approximately 7 hours to Paris, 6 hours to London) and hourly cost, these empty legs offer the highest absolute discounts: $30,000 to $50,000 in savings on a transatlantic journey vs. traditional charter.

07

Can an empty leg be canceled?

Yes. An empty leg depends on the primary flight that generates the repositioning. If this primary flight is canceled, modified, or its schedule changes (weather, mechanical issues, client change), the empty leg disappears or is rescheduled. This is particularly true on transatlantic corridors (North Atlantic weather) and to the Hamptons during high season. We recommend confirming quickly and having a backup option.

08

Is the on-board service identical to a traditional charter?

Yes: identical aircraft, FAA Part 135 certified crew, private terminal (FBO) with VIP parking, direct boarding from the tarmac without a commercial terminal, on-board services (catering, newspapers, high-speed Ka/Ku WiFi). The reduced price does not degrade anything — you are simply purchasing a trip that is already planned and paid for by the primary flight generating the repositioning.

09

How many people can travel on a New York empty leg?

Capacity depends on the aircraft used for the rotation. On Northeast-Florida rotations, you’ll primarily find Light Jets (Citation CJ3+, Phenom 300 — 6 seats) and Mid Size (Citation XLS+, Hawker 900XP — 8 seats). For West Coast and Caribbean connections, Super Mid (Challenger 350, Citation Sovereign — 9 seats) and Heavy (Falcon 2000, Challenger 605 — 10 to 12 seats) are common. For transatlantic flights, Long Range (Global 6000/7500, Falcon 7X/8X, Gulfstream G650 — 12 to 16 seats in a wide-cabin configuration) are used.

10

How can I be notified of a New York empty leg as soon as it's published?

Activate a WhatsApp alert: indicate your route (TEB → Miami, HPN → Aspen, TEB → Le Bourget, etc.) and your dates, and you’ll receive a notification as soon as a flight matches. This is a free service, with no obligation to book, and the fastest channel to not miss short-notice opportunities — particularly valuable on saturated corridors (Hamptons in summer, Florida at Thanksgiving, Aspen between Christmas and New Year’s).
